An elegant figural lamp in a female form

Posted in Home, and Lighting

As I walked among the furniture at the auction house, I came upon an item that was familiar to me – but different.

It was a female figure, very tall and lithe, elegantly dressed in a gilt gown and head wrap. The figure stood on a square pedestal and held a rod in her right hand that reached above her head and ended in a spray of lights. Over her left arm was an electrical cord (placed there, no doubt, by an auction-house staffer so no one would trip over it).

It was an oversized figural floor lamp, only the second such one I’d seen at auction before. The lamp had been placed on top of table and I had to look up pretty high to get a full view of the figure, which stood as tall as six feet or more. The first lamp I saw like this one was painted in black from shade to feet, with the stance of a model. It resembled this lamp on the website hayneedle.

Here’s what the most recent lamp looked like. Could you find a place for it in your home – or your venue?
