Now, it looks like a tangled mess of metal, but I’m sure I knew exactly what this item was when I first spotted it on the back lot at the auction house. What struck me was the flower-petal designs on the cast-iron legs.
I’d seen some like it before, sometimes with its favorite buddy and sometimes without.
The item is missing its most important part – its buddy – both of which were very much in use for decades (and decades ago). That missing item was essential to those who could afford it. Now it’s an anachronism, good only for repurposing – something that my auction buddy Janet mentions each time she sees one.
