I fawned over the brooches as soon as I saw them in the glass case at the auction house. I had trudged through tons of old beat-up clocks and dusty Coca Cola memorabilia, and these pieces of jewelry were a welcome relief.
There were five of them – all with lovely and different gemstones – on the top shelf of one of the low glass cases. Nearby was a wide bone and onyx hinged cuff bracelet that already had attracted an absentee bid.
The first one I came to was a gilt oval-shaped brooch with an amethyst gemstone – oversized and filigreed just like the others. Two had brown stones, and another had a series of cobalt-blue stones enveloping a carved flower. None of these fancy brooches were marked with a maker’s name.
It all made me very curious about the stones and the way they were set, the first half of which I could sate on HARUNI.COM thanks to their breakdowns about different gemstones, but the latter is more difficult. Without a maker’s name and seal tracking their history is that much more difficult. Still, take a look at them. Would these have willed you to stop and linger, too?
