I was trolling through the “junk” furniture on an outside lot at auction last week when I saw a few pieces that struck me. This auction house usually puts the less-desirable furniture in this exterior lot just off the room from the “good” stuff.
Two of the groupings were patio or deck furniture, and the colors of one set made it stand out brilliantly. If I didn’t already have pieces I’d already gotten at auction, I would’ve picked up this aqua set. Not far from it was a similar set in white, which despite its neutral color was a gem, too. (Click on the photo above to see more of the aqua set.)
Then I spotted a vintage chest whose inlaid designs and architectural hardware gave it its character. The drawer pulls looked to be brass with Bakelite accents. I’ve come across fancy drawer pulls and door knobs before, and some of them were as artsy as a painting. With a little restoration, this chest could sit proudly in any home – even mine. Now, where could I put it?
The final set was four small boxy chairs that looked like they came out of a school. Their seats were the size to fit the little bottoms of children. They were so adorable.
I wasn’t around when either of these items were sold, but they probably went for no more than $25 or $50 – or even less. I was just awed by their beauty.
