You’d need a big house for that, the man said as I stood looking in amazement at a crystal chandelier that seemed to be as tall as my 5’8″. The man, a loader who helps auction buyers carry stuff to their trucks, was hurrying past me at the roped-off area that held items for a later auction.
He was right about the chandelier; it was gigantic. It had three tiers, the bottom of which looked like a punch bowl ready for dipping champagne or fruit punch.
It was hanging from the ceiling in a rectangular corner inside the auction house with other items just as big as it was. It and the others may have come from the same home, which I imagined had high ceilings and broad rooms.
The chandelier was surrounded by a cushiony Louis XV-style sofa with a stitched design on the seat and back, and matching side chairs (they looked as if they had never been sat on), several bulky grandfather clocks, a traditional dining room table and chairs, several traditional hutches and a shiny Maeari baby grand piano (which I had never heard of, but it got very bad reviews in forums on Google).
As I moved around the room I saw other items that were also oversized, but they were to be sold that day.
Here are a few of them. Think you could find a place in your home for them?
