Someone at the auction house had placed the red “thing” up high, resting on top of a stool on top of another piece of furniture. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it looked like something a farmer would use to feed livestock – maybe chickens or pigs.
Because of where it had been set, I couldn’t get close to the item to examine it, but I was curious about what it was. That’s not the first time something different had intrigued me; I encounter the unfamiliar all the time at auctions.
I was also impressed with how well the paint had managed to stay attached to this metal item, even though something like hay or dried grass had found a resting place on one of its sides. Maybe that’s what made me think of it as a feeder.
With that in mind, I went searching for another like it on the web. It was a long and seemingly futile search indicating that I was wrong. So I dug a little deeper and finally found something that resembled it.
That’s when I learned what it was. I came across another one in the same color recently – and at eye level – and could easily identify it. Can you guess its function? Click on the photo for the answer.
