As some of you may know, many of my Friday blog posts are answers to readers’ questions about the items they own. I choose the most interesting items, and research them on Google to unlock their stories and eBay to determine their value.
Ebay is one of my main go-to sources because I sell on the auction site and have been doing it for more than a decade. I go to auctions to both find ideas for my blog and items I can sell on the site. I’m always looking up items on my smart phone while at auction to determine if they are worth buying (in other words, how much of a profit I can make) and if they are worth a blog post.
I’ve turned out more than 1,400 posts because I find so many things that are new to me or are just plain fascinating. I blog about a lot more items than I actually buy; otherwise, my house would look like a hoarder’s place.
My eBay specialties are vintage dolls and cameras, and I’ve sold a lot of them and other items over the years. In fact, I’ve researched and written about so much stuff that I’ve been an expert of sorts. That’s why so many people email me to ask about the value of the items they have bought or collected.
Since I use eBay as a resource, I figured folks at the auction site would be interested in profiling me. So I contacted them, and they were.
This week, the eBay for Business blog wrote a story about my expertise in research that was honed during my years as a journalist. The post offers tips on how to dig up information via Google and eBay.
More proof that doing what you love has its perks. Congrats!
