The man and his wife had just moved to Philadelphia with their family and were decorating their house. His wife was looking for a lamp, he told me, and she had considered buying one before they moved from New York. He had encouraged her to wait.
Before buying from a store, I advised him, consider an auction. Some of the best buys and the best-looking home items can be found sitting on an auction-house table or floor. In fact, I was so taken with some of the beautiful lamps at auction last year that I photographed and wrote a blog post about them.
The man got me to thinking about some of the accent pieces that are readily available at auction – if you put in the time to check out a few sites near you (you can find them via auctionzip.com). So, at two of the most recent auctions I attended, I decided to spend some time looking for furniture, tabletop and wall accent pieces.
Here’s a sampling of furniture accent pieces that I found. Some are modern, some are vintage, and some are whimsical. Most are pieces that I’d certainly love to have in my home. In my next blog, I’ll offer up some tabletop and wall accent pieces.
