A couple weeks ago I was reading my local newspaper when I saw a story about Christkindlmarkt, an indoor market with craftspeople, food and music in Bethlehem, PA. It sounded like fun, so I decided to go. I finally did so a week ago.
Christkindlmarkt is modeled after outdoor markets that originated in towns and cities in Germany, from where Bethlehem’s Moravian founders migrated. The markets are also held in other U.S. cities, as well as European towns under different names.
The Bethlehem market had all the signs of Christmas – including a choir gracing us with holiday music – and I brought some back to keep us in the spirit:
