On the hunt for the right garden chairs

Posted in furniture, and Gardening

For some time, I had been searching for garden chairs for my backyard. I had three aluminum ones with yellow and brown plastic strips that I had dragged around as I moved from city to city.

Now, it was time for new furniture. And where else to find them than at auction. I had a large beautiful red umbrella already in my backyard and just needed chairs to match. I found three wooden chairs at one of my favorite auction houses. In fact, I got them plus three plastic white chairs for $30. What a buy!

The wooden chairs were a gaudy pink, but I cleaned them up. I knew that I wanted to paint them red, but I had to find the right shade. The paint I found looked to be candy apple red but once I painted the chairs, the color had more orange than red. I loved the color, though, so I stuck with it. They ended up being a good pairing with my umbrella.

I love a beautiful backyard and garden, and always flip through home and garden magazines for ideas. At auctions, I’m always on the lookout for new and different garden accessories. I think that vintage figurines, planters or other architectural items offer an awesome backdrop to flowers in bloom or green vegetation.

So, when I see a piece of sculpture or a metal figure that grabs me, I’ll bid on it. I’ve come across some lovely ones over the last year or so. Some will fit right in with the peonies and roses and phlox in my back and side yards. I also keep coming across stone figures at auctions that are a little too much for my small yards. They need space to breathe.

So, here’s a slideshow of what I’ve found. To get the best view of the photos below, click on individual photos rather than viewing them through PicLens.
