Snow, a warm reminder
The snowfall this weekend reminded me of a painting I got at an auction a couple years ago. It has an Asian theme. The artist, whose name I can’t determine since I don’t speak the language, textured the piece with a material that resembles snowflakes.

In the painting itself, heavy snow partially covers rose-pink flowers and leaves on a branch. I love this picture because of its peacefulness. Within this cold scene is a feeling of warmth, as exemplified by the birds and the warm tones. Artists have such beautiful minds.

Compare the artwork to this cool gray photo from this weekend’s snow:

I started going to auctions to fuel my love for African American art – but at a bargain. I love the old masters: Lois Mailou Jones, Jacob Lawrence, Hughie Lee-Smith. I wanted to find their works and discover other veteran artists whose works may have been hiding in an attic or basement, and forgotten.
